International Justice Day (July 17)
International Justice Day, observed annually on July 17, marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the International Criminal Court (ICC). The day highlights the global commitment to advancing justice, accountability, and the rule of law, particularly in response to war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

MARTA BELLINGRERI
Independent researcher, she is an expert of gender studies in Middle East and North Africa. Her studies focuses also on human rights and international justice, for which she followed the trials of women and men belonging to terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria and Syrian trials for crimes against humanity.

Professor of International Law at Geneva Graduate Institute. Her research interests focus on International Justice and Accountability for gross violations of international law and atrocity crimes, as well as on general issues of public international law and exposed to cross-fertilization by international human rights law and humanitarian law.

Professor of Political Philosophy at the University of Milan. Director of the Laboratory of Bioethics at the L. Einaudi research and documentation center. She deals with normative political theory, i.e. the study of foundations, concepts, and models of political activity, focusing, in particular, on non-ideal models of politics and justice.

LORENA MONCHOLÍ BADILLO
Lawyer specialized in health law, maternity, and children's rights, with a focus on eradicating obstetric violence. Certified community health agent, holds master’s degrees in Bioethics and Gender Equality, and was a finalist for the 2016 Avanzadoras Award.

MARÍA JOSEFA RIDAURA MARTÍNEZ
Constitutional Law scholar with research on Spanish and German constitutional jurisprudence, parliamentary obstruction, intergovernmental relations, fundamental rights, and EU law. Has taught in Spain and Latin America and is a substitute judge.

KATE BARTH
Legal Director of Freedom Now, where she represents prisoners of conscience before international human rights bodies and leads advocacy campaigns for their release. She previously worked with India’s Lawyers Collective on health and human rights, supporting the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health. Barth began her career in project finance at Allen & Overy and has also worked on gender and legal reform in Namibia.

BIRGIT VAN HOUT
Regional Representative for Europe at the UN Human Rights Regional Office in Brussels, a role she has held since 2017. She has worked to promote human rights, democracy, and the rule of law in countries including Guatemala, Timor Leste, Bosnia, and Palestine with the UN, EU, and OSCE.

Public international law advocate with extensive experience advancing human rights in authoritarian and transitional contexts, particularly in East and Southeast Asia. She works closely with local partners to support access to justice, freedom of expression and association, and the rights of lawyers. Wickeri has led numerous training and capacity-building projects, conducted field and desk research, and engaged in international advocacy and accountability mechanisms.

Sandrine Brachotte has a doctorate in law and is a qualified lawyer specializing in private international law, comparative law, human rights and decolonial approaches.
LOUISE LESOIL
Louise Lesoil is a lawyer specializing in international criminal justice. Her professional experience has led her to contribute to research on access to child-friendly justice within the CFJ-EN European network.
KATARINA BERVAR STERNAD
Lawyer and dedicated human rights advocate. For over a decade, she has led the Legal Centre for the Protection of Human Rights and the Environment (PIC), where she focuses on ensuring legal safeguards through systemic change in legislation, policy, and practice. She contributes to national and international projects, authors expert studies, and serves as a certified Council of Europe tutor, as well as a board member of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights and other advisory bodies.

Legal expert with a PhD in law, a state bar exam, and specialized in the legal regulation of e-democracy, digital participation, and freedom of speech. She is the director of the Rea IT Research Center and formerly worked at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Higher Court in Ljubljana. As a Fulbright scholar, she conducted research on online democratic processes at Ohio State University and has published several acclaimed books on electronic democracy, civic engagement, and digital governance.
