Dear reader,
Welcome to the December issue of our Ask Women newsletter, brought to you by the European Network for Women Excellence (ENWE) in collaboration with the women experts’ databases in our network: 100esperte, AcademiaNet, Agenda d’Expertes, Expertalia, and Les Expertes.
This Edition’s Theme:
International Day of Education (24 January)
The International Day of Education, observed on January 24, was established by the United Nations General Assembly to celebrate education’s transformative role in fostering peace and sustainable development. Education is a fundamental human right, enshrined in Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which calls for free and compulsory elementary education. The Convention on the Rights of the Child further emphasizes accessibility to higher education for all.
Central to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, education is pivotal to achieving all 17 goals, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims for inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all. Despite this, millions of children and adolescents remain out of school, with many unable to access basic learning opportunities. These disparities threaten efforts to break cycles of poverty, achieve gender equality, and ensure a sustainable future, making universal education an urgent global priority.
