Ask Women – on Alzheimer's
Change the narrative with the women experts from the European databases of the ENWE network.
Dear reader,
Welcome to our July issue of Ask Women, brought to you by the European Network for Women Excellence (ENWE) in collaboration with the women experts’ databases in our network, which include 100esperte, AcademiaNet, Agenda d’Expertes, Expertalia, and Les Expertes.
ℹ️ As always, we will be taking a little break in August and look forward to reconnecting with you in September.
This Edition’s Theme:
World Alzheimer's Day (September 21)
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurological disorder that primarily affects memory and cognitive abilities, making it the most common type of dementia. It is recognized as a major public health challenge due to its increasing prevalence with the aging global population.
World Alzheimer's Day, observed on September 21, is a day dedicated to raising awareness about Alzheimer's and dementia. This day is part of World Alzheimer's Month, initiated by Alzheimer's Disease International, which aims to challenge the stigma that surrounds dementia and highlight the urgent need for more research, improved care, and increased support for those living with the disease and their caregivers.

MARIA PIA ABBRACCHIO
Full Professor of Pharmacology, Deputy Rector and Vice Rector Research & Innovation at University of Milan, Italy. Research focuses on the development of neuro-regenerative approaches to enhance brain repair in acute and chronic diseases like Alzheimer's, with special focus on remyelination and functional recovery.
Contact nowMARIA LUISA GORNO TEMPINI
Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco. She directs the Language Neurobiology Laboratory of the UCSF Memory and Aging Center. She also co-founded the UCSF Dyslexia Center in 2015, leading a large team of clinicians and scientists with expertise in behavioral neurology, cognitive neuroscience, speech-language pathology, and advanced neuroimaging techniques.
ANNALISA PASTORE
Professor of Chemistry & Molecular Biology at King's College London, Pastore has spent over 30 years studying the relationship between the structure and function of peptides and proteins involved in neurodegeneration, particularly those associated with aggregative processes seen in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
ELLY HOL
Prof. Dr. Elly Hol is Vice-Dean of Research at the University Medical Center Utrecht. Her research is focused on the role of glial cells in brain diseases. The overall aim is to elucidate the molecular and functional changes in glia that contribute to the pathogenesis of neurological and psychiatric diseases.SABINE LIEBSCHER
Prof. Sabine Liebscher (University Hospital of Cologne & University of Cologne) strives to better understand the cellular and circuit mechanisms contributing to the degeneration of neurons in CNS disorders by using vivo two-photon imaging to chronically monitor the structure and function of neurons and glial cells at single cell/synapse resolution.AGNETA NORDBERG
Prof. Dr. Agneta Nordberg has pioneered the field of cholinergic neurotransmission and the development of amyloid PET imaging, introducing the multi-tracer PET concept, evaluating drug mechanism of action, and visualizing reactive astrogliosis and tau pathology in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and dementia disorders.CHRISTIANE RICHTER-LANDSBERG
Christiane Richter-Landsberg is a professor and head of the Molecular Neurobiology/Neurochemistry group at the Institute of Biology, University of Oldenburg, Germany. She studies the molecular basis of neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's, Progressive Supra- nuclear Palsy, Parkinson's, Multiple System Atrophy).
